The minimum order is the whole planning problem
Minimum order is 500 pieces per artwork, with 14–21 days production after artwork approval. For a 40-key property that is not a shortage — it is several years of stock if the credential is recovered, and roughly a season if it is not. The number that matters is not rooms; it is artworks.
So the discipline for a small property is artwork restraint. One artwork across every guest type, differentiated by colour only where colour is genuinely doing work, keeps a boutique property in a single count instead of four. Properties that want a different design for the spa, the restaurant and the villas end up with 2,000 pieces and a storage problem.

The handover is the product
At a large resort the band is issued across a desk in a queue. At a boutique property it is handed over personally, often with a drink, sometimes on a tray. That changes what matters: weight, warmth, the sound it makes, whether it needs explaining.
Constructions that suit that moment are the ones with a material story you can feel — a sealed wood face on a cotton cord, a cork face, a fine woven band. Constructions that undermine it are the ones with visible closures and printed panels, however practical they are.
Natural materials, specified against the real environment
An eco-lodge in a rainforest and a boutique hotel in a dry climate have opposite constraints, and both are often shown the same wood-and-cord band. Sustained humidity works into cord channels and bead bores; sustained sun lightens exposed faces unevenly.
We would rather narrow the recommendation early than deliver something that ages badly in six weeks. Sealed faces, edge sealing and closed module apertures are the specification detail that decides this, far more than the species does.
What a small property should say about its materials
Guests at these properties read the small print, and so do the journalists who write about them. That makes precision an asset: a statement describing the strap yarn, or the face material, or the run documentation, is stronger than a general claim about the band being sustainable — which is not true of any credential containing a sealed electronic module.
We issue material declarations against the production run so the property is quoting a document rather than a category. The approved sentence for certified wood options is used exactly as written, without expansion.
Small teams, and the reissue reality
A boutique property may have one person on the desk at night. Reissue therefore has to be simple enough to do alone, at 2am, without a manager: spare stock in reach, a credential issued from the same system as the original, and a record that does not require a second person to authorise.
The same is true of housekeeping recovery. With a small team it is realistic to make one person responsible for reconciling found credentials weekly, which is a stronger control than a large property usually manages.
Formats without fragmenting the order
Small properties usually need more than one format — a band for the pool, a card for the guest who does not want to wear anything, something for staff. Running those as separate artworks multiplies the minimum.
The way through is one artwork family with a shared mark and different substrates: the same engraved mark on a wood face, a card and a staff band. Visually consistent, operationally distinct, and far fewer counts.
When a wristband is the wrong idea entirely
Some properties are not wristband properties. A quiet adult hotel where guests dress for dinner may find any visible band wrong, however well made, and a card carried in a pocket is the honest answer.
We will say so. A credential that guests remove is worse than a plainer credential they keep on, and the point of specifying carefully at this scale is to avoid buying 500 of something the property will quietly stop issuing.
