Mediterranean properties open, run hard for a few months, and close. That rhythm shapes the credential programme more than the climate does — stock is bought seasonally, staff are new each spring, and beach clubs sell to the public.

The season is the planning unit

Credentials are ordered for a season rather than for a year, which means the order is placed while the property is closed and nobody is thinking about wristbands. A season that starts short is a season that spends its first month improvising.

Production is 14–21 days after artwork approval, and approval is slower when the person who approves is on leave. The practical rule is to place the season order before the property reopens rather than after the first busy weekend.

Day visitors are a business, not an exception

Beach clubs and pool clubs selling to non-residents are normal across the region, and they put two populations through one space: residents who have already paid and visitors who have paid at the door for a window.

That makes a visually distinct day credential with a one-way closure the standard specification, alongside a comfortable reusable band for residents. It also makes colour-by-day worth running, so a band from yesterday is instantly wrong.

Two credentials, told apart peripherally

A member of staff at a gate has three seconds. Different colour and different construction can be read from the corner of an eye; a printed tier marker on a shared band has to be read.

New staff every spring

Seasonal hiring means the people issuing credentials in May have never done it before, and the people who knew the procedure last year have gone. Anything that depends on institutional memory will not survive.

The practical responses are a written issue and reissue procedure that fits on one page, a sizing gauge at the desk rather than judgement, and a tampered-band control sample at any gate that checks tamper evidence.

Sun is the material constraint

Long days of direct sun through a whole season shift pale and fluorescent pigments first, and unevenly because bands rotate. Where colour is carrying meaning — a tier, a session, a day — a palette chosen on tone rather than hue contrast stops working before the season ends.

It is also why we specify debossed rather than printed marks for any credential that is reused across a season: a printed layer is legible for weeks and patchy afterwards.

Closing down without losing the specification

At the end of a season, remaining stock is stored somewhere for months and the credential record goes with it — or does not. Properties that reorder well hold the approved sample, artwork revision, colour reference and credential input somewhere that survives the closure.

Stock itself should be stored sealed and flat rather than compressed. Vinyl and welded constructions in particular develop creases in compressed storage that turn into failures the following summer.

Groups across several countries

Mediterranean groups frequently span more than one country, which introduces a different importer of record per destination and sometimes different documentation requirements. Those are separate from the credential specification and should be established per destination before an order is placed.

The credential decision itself — one artwork across the group with a colour per property, or separate designs — is a branding question rather than a logistics one, and it is worth taking deliberately because it decides the order size.

Compatibility rule

Compatibility is confirmed against the property’s lock system, credential technology and encoding requirements before production. We do not claim universal compatibility.

Questions this raises

01When should a seasonal property order?+

Before reopening, not after the first busy weekend. Production is 14–21 days after artwork approval, and approval is slower out of season when the person who signs it is away.

02How do we handle day visitors at a beach club?+

A visually distinct day credential with a one-way closure, alongside a reusable resident band. Colour by day is worth running so a band from yesterday is obviously wrong, provided the sequence is not predictable to a regular visitor.

03How should we store stock over the winter?+

Sealed and flat rather than compressed. Vinyl and welded constructions develop creases in compressed storage that become failures the following season — and store the reorder record where it will survive the closure too.
