Character, and the price of it
Hemp and jute are bast fibres, taken from the stem of the plant. They are strong along their length, coarse in the hand and visibly irregular, which is exactly why properties want them — no two bands look identical and the texture reads as made rather than manufactured.
The same structure sets the limits: coarse fibres abrade skin more than fine yarns do, they absorb water readily, and they stiffen as they dry. This family is specified for short and dry-zone programmes, and it disappoints in water.
Moisture cycling, not immersion, is the test
A single soaking does little. Repeated wet-and-dry — dew at a camp, a swim, an afternoon of rain, day after day — is what changes the band, and after a couple of weeks of it the object is materially different from the one that was approved.
So the question to answer before specifying is not whether the property has a pool. It is what the daily moisture pattern looks like, and whether the credential is worn through it.
Comfort over a real wear period
A coarse band is pleasant for an evening and less so on night four, particularly on a wrist that has been in sun and salt. Where the credential is worn continuously for a week, a blended or softened construction is worth the loss of some raw character.
The test is a member of staff wearing the sample for the length of a normal stay and recording when they want to take it off. That number is the specification, and no material description substitutes for it.

Where it belongs
Glamping and nature retreats, private events, dry-zone resort access and short experience-led programmes. In those settings the material’s limits never arrive and its character does all the work.
In a water-led resort it is the wrong specification, and we would rather say so than supply a band that ages badly in six weeks.
Ask what happens to the band every day, not what happens on its worst day. Natural fibres are changed by cycling, and cycling is a property of the operation rather than of the weather.
